Technology for the Rest of Us:
What Every Librarian Should Understand about the
Technologies that Affect Us
The purpose of this project is to provide a professional development opportunity for Ohio academic librarians to gain an understanding of the computer technologies that underlie and impact library services. The intended audience is librarians who are not in information technology (IT)-related positions but who seek to improve their understanding of technical issues so that they can better participate in library policy and services development. The rapid pace of technological change has meant that many librarians already in the field have had no formal instruction in the technologies that underlie the systems they use every day. This project intends to provide instruction that is a step up from hands-on application training (e.g. web page development, spreadsheets) but is still accessible to a non-IT audience.
